The first signs of Armenia can be traced in Sumerian cuneiform inscriptions dating back to III millennium BC. Armenia has not only an ancient culture and rich history, but also a centuries-old history of religion.
One of the remaining structures of evidence of ancient Armenian history is its fortresses. Many of Armenia’s fortresses were destroyed by the enemy or by earthquakes, but there are several fortresses that survived that can still be visited today. The ruins of these castles and fortresses are still a sight to see and often sit on top of peaks and hills with beautiful views. If you are interested in Armenia’s history, you should visit these ancient fortresses and explore the ruins of what used to be.
